Privacy Policy
Effective 15 October 2026
Tutzy is an AI tutoring app for Australian students. We take the privacy of families, and especially children, seriously. We follow the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us, and your choices.
Who we are
Tutzy is operated from New South Wales, Australia. Contact us at support@tutzy.app.
How accounts work
A parent or guardian (18 or over) creates the account. The parent then creates a login for each child. A child does not give us an email address, phone number or home address. A child signs in with a username and password that the parent sets.
What we collect
| Who | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Parent | Name, email address, sign-in method (email, Apple or Google), subscription status | To run the account, send sign-in and security emails, and manage the plan |
| Student | First name or nickname, username, school year, state, chosen subjects | To teach at the right level and show the right subjects |
| Student | Chat messages with the tutor, time spent studying, number of messages used | To give answers, show the parent a study log, and apply plan limits |
| Devices | A random device identifier made by the app, and a device label such as "iPhone or iPad" | To limit how many devices share a student login, to prevent abuse, and to allow one free trial per household |
| Safety | Safety alerts when a message suggests a student may be at risk or unsafe | So the parent can be told and help |
We do not show ads. We do not sell personal information. We do not use children's information for advertising or profiling.
Photos, documents and drawings
Only if a parent switches this on for a student. Where possible, Tutzy turns a photo, PDF or Word file into text on the device and sends only the text. If handwriting or a diagram cannot be read as text, one very small, black and white copy of the picture may be sent. The original photo or file is never sent. Pictures are processed to answer the question and are not stored. Only the text of the conversation is kept.
Artificial intelligence
Tutzy uses Claude, an AI model from Anthropic, to write tutoring replies. Student messages, and text taken from attachments, are sent securely to Anthropic to produce the reply. Anthropic acts as our service provider for this. Based on Anthropic's commercial terms, content sent through its API is not used to train its models by default. Anthropic is in the United States, so this is an overseas disclosure. AI can make mistakes. Please do not enter sensitive details such as full names, addresses or phone numbers in chats.
Who else handles data
- Supabase - our database and sign-in service, hosted in Sydney, Australia.
- Anthropic - AI replies (United States).
- Amazon Web Services (SES) - sending account emails.
- Apple - Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and subscriptions. We do not see payment card details.
- Google - Sign in with Google, if a parent chooses it.
- RevenueCat - to confirm subscription status with Apple (when payments are switched on).
We do not allow these providers to use your information for their own advertising.
Keeping data safe
Data is encrypted in transit. Access is limited by role: a parent sees only their own family, a student sees only their own chats. Secret keys are kept on the server, not in the app.
How long we keep data
We keep account data while the account is open. When a parent deletes the account, all students, chats, study logs and usage for that family are deleted. We keep a small anti-abuse record (a random device code and a one-way account key) so a deleted account cannot be used to restart free trials over and over. It holds no names or chats. Safety and security logs may be kept for a short time as needed.
Your choices
- Parents can change or delete any student, and delete the whole account, inside the app. See Delete account.
- Parents can turn photos and documents on or off for each student.
- You can ask to see or correct your information by emailing support@tutzy.app.
Complaints
Please contact us first. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we will tell parents in the app or by email.
